Makenna Hatter-Paxton (she/her) is a multi-disciplinary artist living in Austin, Texas since 1987. She began making art in 2017 after leaving a 12 year career in the legal field. She was introduced to oil painting in 2019 and subsequently shifted her art practice to revolve around painting the figure.

Hatter-Paxton’s technical and conceptual training was shaped by her painting mentors and her time studying at Texas State University and Austin Community College. Hatter-Paxton earned her BFA, with a concentration in painting, from Texas State University in May 2022. At present she is earning her Masters in Fine Arts from the University of Houston.

Apart from her art practice, Hatter-Paxton teaches painting classes as well as workshops on woodworking for painters. She manages and works on a native habitat restoration project with her husband on their ranch in South Austin: Pretty Pool Ranch. She is a beekeeper and mom to one rescue dog and flock of chickens.
